So there I was, browsing in the Charity Shop for a cheap copy of ‘The South Beach Diet’ – as recommended by Medical and Presents Award Winning Author Kate Hardy – when I saw the spine of a familiar cover peeking out at me from a bottom shelf. The 2 in 1 UK print of Hired: Sassy Assistant.
Yes. I have just seen a copy of one of my books in a charity shop!
Swoon.
You may recall how thrilled I was to see my book and my name on the supermarket shelves for the first time back in January this year – I even posted photos of the momentous occasion.
I do not mind a bit that someone donated the book so that the charity can raise funds and another person can enjoy a great 2 in 1 bargain – and if they liked the story they may well look out for more of my books in the future or buy my other two books in print.
And the best thing? This was no pristine copy. This book had seen action. Well used, battered, worn covers and with several dog eared pages.
It had been read! [ See Nina’s bosom swell with pride! Even if the reader did buy it just to read the Barbara McMahon’s story.]
One more stepping stone on the journey. LOL
My MIL is a volunteer in a charity shop in her town and can vouch for the fact that they cannot get enough Mills and Boon to keep their customers happy – and the demographic spans all ages and economic groups.
Note: I did observe several pristine, immaculate, just flicked through copies of both the Atkins and Dukan Diet books. NO South Beach – clearly those copies are treasured and on the keeper shelf. But ALL Of the Mills and Boon and Romance titles had lived a little – and some had lived a lot. Need I say more?

It was such a complete surprise and a lovely one. Thanks ladies.
What a fabulous milestone! It must have been a thrill to see that battered and worn cover 🙂
Yey. That’s when you know you’ve made it! And I’m sure someone will be delighted to snaffle it up. jx
