One of the features of the Donald Maass Agency Website is a page where he describes what the agency is looking for in a particular month. And for June/ July this is ROMANCE and WOMEN’S FICTION in the build up to the RWA Conference.
What is Donald looking for? BIG BOOKS which will cross genres while still holding “a romantic story as its main narrative through line.” Multiple subplots with three dimensional antagonists. Powerful storytelling. All aspects which will increase the appeal of the book to the widest possible range of publishers/gate-keepers.
SO THINK BIG! And why not let one of the biggest US agents in the genre see your work?
Closer to home, I was interested to read that Maddie West from MIRA has taken the rights to ‘Virgin Widow’ by Anne O’Brian – the story of Anne Neville and her role in English Royal Dynasty. Well worth watching out for.
In the meantime I am pressing on with my next Mills and Boon Romance – and building quite a playlist.
Here are two more ways you can procrastinate. LOL. Enjoy
