Once in a Lifetime Moment

Many, many years ago I attended a Writers’ Conference in the UK and was delighted to find myself in the company of so many like minded women – and a few men – who had a passion for poetry and literature – and wanted to learn about the craft of creating fiction.

I do recall one lunchtime conversation, however, where I got the distinct impression that my ideas about the business of writing was rather different from my fellow delegates.

I casually mentioned that MY GOAL was to see My books on Supermarket shelves. One day. If I worked hard and was lucky enough to find a big name publisher for my books who could bring my stories to the biggest numbers of readers possible.

You should have seen the look of horror on their faces. Commercial fiction! Oh my!

Fast forward some 10 LONG years.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I give you “Hired: Sassy Assistant” by Nina Harrington.

Released January across the USA.

And available from a shop near you in a 2 in 1 for Mills and Boon Romance Line in the UK, January 2010.

In Tesco. And WH Smith.

[ We went to Asda but they must have sold out, and Sainsburys don’t stock them]

And Mr Nina helped to re-organise the shelf arrangement – with apologies to the other Romance authors.

Yes,  I had a terrible cold – just out out bed. And yes, it was a freezing day.

But let me tell you, if you have not experienced that moment for yourself, for me, seeing the words that I created inside covers on those shelves was a once in a lifetime event.

I do hope that there will be many more books on shelves like these with Nina Harrington’s name on the cover, but this is special. My town, my supermarkets and bookstore.

My first book for Mills and Boon, “Always the Bridesmaid” was launched in the US last July and Online and to selected stored in the UK/Australia and now Spain.

SO this is the first book available in the UK retail stores.

As a special treat – I have added a Free Extract from the First Chapter and the Behind the Scenes Inspiration for the Book to the Sidebar on this Blog as a Seperate Page. Just click on the Page.

I love this story and the characters.

AND Romantic Times gave it a 4 1/2 star rating and make it one of the Top Pics for January reading.

I hope that each and every one of you has the pleasure and satisfaction of knowing that a reader can pick up and enjoy a book that you have created.

Stay warm and happy writing. Love. Nina

  1. What a fantastic moment for you, and I love that the 2in1 cover looks like a flashback to the old Mills & Boons I used to know and love! I enjoyed the excerpt too, especially when it seemed like Lulu was a librarian (yes, I’m one!) but even though it turned out she wasn’t I’m still looking forward to reading your novel :o)

Here’s to more success in 2010!

  2. Thank you for your good wishes, Nell, Liz, Judy, Lacey, Caroline and Suzanne and Debs. It means a lot to share my special and precious day with my friends and the romance community – it makes it extra special. x

  3. Aw Nina what a lovely post. Really heartfelt and WELL DESERVED. It’s a great book guys, read it and give one to your friends too. I was luck to get an early sneakie peek.
I guess it’s the dream that keeps every romance wannabe at it (funnily enough I’ve always said I am doing it cos I’d like to see my book in Asda when I’m shopping so snap!)
May you have many many more supermarket/hometown store moments! Enjoy! Cos you deserve it. And I’m raring for the next one.
    jx
